Andres Miranda Duarte

Classical guitarist based in London.

Born in 1981 in Bogota, Colombia. Andres embarked on a musical journey at the age of 8 by joining the Orquesta Sinfonica Juvenil de Colombia, where he received guitar and music theory lessons.

By the time he turned 12, he was already composing and writing his own music.

"I vividly remember creating my first music demo by connecting my guitar to the new stereo system my family had purchased for our home.

To my delight, one of my songs was accepted by a radio station and broadcasted—an auspicious start to my career as a guitarist, producer, and composer".

Andres earned his degree in Music with a focus on Classical guitar. During those formative years, he not only composed music for the guitar but also explored other instruments and ensembles. His creative endeavors extended to electronic music and soundtracks for short films, some of which garnered awards in electronic music and sound quality during the Short-Movies Competition in 2003 at Pontificia Universidad Javeriana in Bogota, Colombia. Notably, the introduction of his composition called 'Arabesco' was selected as the standout orchestration work, earning its place in the

end-of semester performance.

​In 1997, he composed a three-movement piece called “El Sueño de Ícaro” (Icarus’s Dream) for a chamber orchestra, complete with a choir. Remarkably, this composition later became the anthem of his secondary school.

During high school years, Andres collaborated with talented acoustic guitarist named Yesid de la Rivera. Notably, they were honored as the best guitar ensemble at the Casa de la Cultura guitar competition in Chia, Colombia in 2001. In the same competition, Andres also won the second prize for his solo guitar performance, playing a composition titled “Eva.”

In 2008 he embarked on a journey to London, where he pursued a postgraduate course in 

Guitar Performance at the Tech Music Schools where He performed at the graduation night held at the iconic O2 Shepherds Bush Empire in London. Fast forward to 2015, he was invited by The Colombian Council to perform on Colombia’s Independence Day at the prestigious Royal College of Music in London. On that memorable occasion he showcased an original guitar composition titled ‘Summer’s Day’.

Since 2010, he has been deeply involved in music education, teaching in various schools across London.

 

Currently he is pursuing a Master’s degree in Classical Guitar and Composition at the esteemed 

Trinity-Laban Conservatoire under the expert guidance of Graham Devine (Head Guitar deparment) and the visionary leadership of Dominic Murcott  (Head of Composition) and His amazing Composition

Team, including Professor Sam Hayden, Professor Edward Jessen and Professor Alex Paxton.
